Adriana Rosario, Class of 2009, along with a 16-member team from UPR - Mayaguez Campus (RUM) won third place among 35 countries in the World Cup Enactus Competition recently celebrated in Beijing, China.
Adriana is studying chemistry and is also pursuing a teacher's certificate in science education for high schools.
The competition brought together 35 national champion teams that presented their community empowerment projects, addressing important global issues, before a panel of international executives who served as judges. Countries represented included host country China, Canada, South Africa, Malaysia, Guatemala, Poland, England, Kenya, Egypt, Australia, Japan, Ghana, India, Brazil, France, Azerbaijan, Zimbabwe, Philippines, Russia, Mexico, United States, India, Netherlands, Ireland, Morocco and Puerto Rico, among others.
Enactus (en•act•us) is an organization that brings together a community of students and academic and business leaders committed to using the power of entrepreneurial action to transform lives and shape a better more sustainable world. The organization comprises 36 participating countries and 1,600 universities from around the world.
First Place went to the North China Electric Power University in China. Second Place, the Mohammadia School of Engineers of Morocco; and Third, the Mayagüez Campus of the University of Puerto Rico (UPR).
