The music program in the lower school is design to expose the students to music through the experiences of performing and cognitive skills. The students learn the concepts of pitch, volume, beat and rhythm among others. They will listen to music and recognize these concepts as well as play music understanding these elements. They will recognize the musical instruments by families.
In first grade, the primary goal is for students to begin to master basic locomotor and non-locomotor skills & concepts. Spatial awareness will continue to develop. Students are introduced to more physical changes that occur as a result of physical activity. In addition, there is an increased emphasis in following directions and interacting appropriately with classmates regardless of differences in a physical setting.
The Spanish department firmly believes that through the integrated development of the native language skills, (speak, listen, read, write and think), the student can achieve and reinforce his/her capabilities for personal growth and adaptation to the social, cultural, and technological reality in which he/she lives, based on the 21st Century Skills.

These students reinforce the development of reading-writing skills through exposition to more complex texts with an increasing level of difficulty. Reading an ample variety of literary genre, that includes Puerto Rican and Latin American authors, will give students the opportunity to broaden their knowledge and development of reading skills. Creative and pragmatic writing development is reinforced through the composition of sentences, paragraphs, journal entries, short stories, dialogues, dictation and oral reports. The study of the Spanish language is introduced from a morphological, orthographic, and semantic viewpoint.
