2020-PRESENT: RENEWAL AND INSTITUTIONAL GROWTH

The 2020s opened with a new kind of challenge when the COVID-19 pandemic forced schools worldwide to close their doors. CPS responded swiftly, pivoting to full virtual instruction and becoming one of the first schools in Puerto Rico to do so. Faculty and staff came together to ensure that students experienced as little disruption to their learning as possible, maintaining the connections and routines that keep a school community intact even when its campuses are closed. The speed and care with which CPS made that transition reflected something real about the character of the institution and the people in it.

In 2023, CPS acquired the historic Roosevelt Cinema, a landmark property adjacent to the Commonwealth Campus. Renamed the Comets Roosevelt Theater, the venue now serves as the primary setting for many of the school's most meaningful events, including awards ceremonies, performing arts productions, and school-wide gatherings. The theater also opens its doors to the broader community, reflecting CPS's longstanding sense of responsibility to the neighborhood and city it calls home.

For the 2023-2024 school year, CPS earned the AP Platinum School Honor Roll designation from the College Board, recognizing the breadth and rigor of its Advanced Placement program and the performance of its students on AP examinations. CPS is one of only three AP Platinum schools in all of Puerto Rico.

During the summer of 2025, the Commonwealth Campus covered court underwent a significant renovation, with a new playing surface and refreshed facilities made possible in substantial part through the generous support of an alumni donor. The project reflects both the school's ongoing commitment to maintaining quality athletic and gathering spaces and the deep loyalty of CPS alumni who continue to invest in the institution long after graduation.

In April 2026, CPS was granted membership in the Council of International Schools (CIS), becoming the only school in Puerto Rico to hold CIS membership. This recognition affirms CPS's standing as an institution that meets international standards for educational quality, community, and governance. A combined CIS and Middle States accreditation process is now under exploration for 2027, which would place CPS among a select group of schools worldwide holding dual accreditation from both organizations.

Co-curricular life remains wide-ranging and central to the school's identity. Students participate in competitive and intramural athletics, fine and performing arts, robotics, forensics, Model United Nations, student government, service learning, and a growing array of clubs and programs across both campuses. Enrollment stands at approximately 675 students, a figure that reflects the continued confidence of families who choose CPS for its academic quality, its culture of care, and its commitment to developing the whole person.
