Join us for the 4th annual Comets Run or Walk on Sunday, October 25, 2026, on our Hato Rey Campus! This family-friendly event brings together students, alumni, families, faculty, staff, and friends for an afternoon of fitness, fun, and Comet Spirit.
This Year's Event Features Two Exciting Experiences
Kids Dash beginning at 3:30 PM
- 100-meter dash for children ages 3–5
- 200-meter dash for children ages 6–8
- 300-meter dash for children ages 9–12
5K Run or Walk beginning at 4:30 PM (ages 13 and up)
The Kids Dash and 5K Run or Walk are non-competitive events designed for fun, participation, and community spirit. The Kids Dash gives our youngest Comets the opportunity to experience the excitement of the day. Children ages 3–5 will participate in the 100-meter dash, children ages 6–8 in the 200-meter dash, and children ages 9–12 in the 300-meter dash. Participants should register for the appropriate age event category.
Children under 13 are invited to participate in the Kids Dash. Children under 13 who are registered for the Kids Dash may also accompany a parent or responsible adult along the 5K Run or Walk route as part of a fun family run or walk. Children under 13 who are not registered for the Kids Dash may not participate in, or accompany a parent or responsible adult along, the 5K Run or Walk route. Any child under 13 who accompanies a parent or responsible adult along the 5K Run or Walk route must remain under the supervision and control of that parent or responsible adult during the entire time. While they may enjoy the experience with their families, children under 13 are not considered official 5K Run or Walk participants.
Virtual Comets Run or Walk Challenge
Can't join us in person? You can still be part of the Comet Spirit! This year, we are excited to offer a Virtual Comets Run or Walk Challenge for those who are unable to participate in person. The challenge will take place on dates near the official Comets Run or Walk date, giving participants the opportunity to complete their own 5K Run or Walk wherever they are and join our Comet community from near or far.
The Virtual Challenge is also a non-competitive event. Details of the official challenge dates will be shared soon.
Movie Option for CPS Students During the 5K
We understand that some families may need an alternative for their children while parents or family members participate in the 5K. CPS students who are registered for the Comets Run or Walk will have the option of watching a movie in the Comets Roosevelt Theater while their parents or family members participate in the 5K Run or Walk. More details about the movie and supervision arrangements will be shared closer to the event.
Annual Costume Parade
As in previous years, we will also celebrate our beloved Annual Costume Parade before the start of both events. Participation in the parade is open to all registered Comets Run or Walk participants, as it is an official part of the event.
Each class is encouraged to select a unique comparsa theme and share it with their Room Parent, who will communicate the theme to the event committee to help avoid duplicate ideas. Classes will also choose the song that will accompany their parade presentation. Prizes will be awarded to the class with the highest number of registered participants and to the class with the best comparsa.
Help your class win! When registering, families should select the CPS student's grade level as their class affiliation, including when registering adult family members. This will ensure that adult registrations are counted toward the student's class when determining the class with the highest number of registered participants.
Continuing last year's tradition, all comparsas will use the official 2026 Comets Run or Walk event shirt as the foundation of their costume design, celebrating the spirit of one united Comet Family. This year's official shirt color is orange, and classes are encouraged to showcase their creativity through fun accessories and decorations.
Registration pricing is the same for children and adults. Every participant registered for the in-person event will receive an official event shirt, race bib, and finisher medal. Participants registered for the Virtual Comets Run or Walk Challenge will also receive an official event shirt and finisher medal; it will be sent through mail once the challenge is completed. Shirt sizes are requested for planning purposes and cannot be guaranteed. Every effort will be made to provide the selected size based on availability.
Families with young children are welcome to participate with strollers or scooters. For the safety of all participants, bicycles, skates, skateboards, and pets are not permitted at the event.
Proceeds from the event will benefit the CPS Annual Giving Fund and Financial Aid Fund, helping enhance academic programs, campus resources, and facilities while expanding tuition assistance opportunities for deserving students.
Whether you're running, walking, participating virtually, cheering on loved ones, or watching your little Comets race in our 4th Comets Run or Walk, you'll be helping strengthen our school community while celebrating the Comet Spirit.
We can't wait to see you at the starting line—or wherever you choose to take your Comets Run or Walk!
Thank you,
