1970-1989: CONSOLIDATION AND DEMOGRAPHICS

Between 1972 and 1974, the seventh and eighth grades were moved from the Commonwealth Campus to Parkville. In 1979, the Board of Trustees voted to sell the San Juan School by the Sea, transferring its assets to a corporation formed by its parent community, and redirected resources toward improving facilities at both Parkville and Commonwealth.
Throughout the 1980s, Parkville School saw continued enrollment growth alongside a notable demographic shift, with a reduction in stateside families and a corresponding increase in Hispanic and international students. The library was expanded, and dedicated space was established for the Horizons Program, a compensatory support program designed
for students with mild learning differences. The Horizons Program continues at the Parkville Campus today. It is not remedial. Students in the program participate in regular classrooms for many subjects and work within grade-level expectations with documented support.
