Alumni Corner

 

I wanted to personally introduce myself to all our CPS Comets. My name is Maria de Los Angeles Villarejo, an alumnus from the class of 1999, proud Comet! I have always been passionate about CPS.  I started in Kinder at Parkville and graduated from Commonwealth High School. I am a mother to a beautiful 3-year-old boy and a wife of 8 + years.

CPS helped in forming the person I am today. I built long-lasting friendships that have become family to me throughout the years. After completing my years at CPS, I decided to stay in Puerto Rico close to my family, so I went ahead and completed a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration and a Master’s Degree in Public Relations from Universidad del Sagrado Corazón. During this process, I decided to briefly explore one of my passions back then and attended the Fashion Institute of Technology in NYC where I completed a certification in the fashion industry business.

At 21, I started working with the top fashion designers in PR, at the SJ Fashion Center. There I worked with the sponsorship department, fashion production, and business expansion departments.  While working towards the completion of my master’s degree I worked as a buyer for Gatsby, a local clothing chain.

After the 2018 economic downturn, I decided to explore different fields, in the banking and entertainment industry. I then started working as a freelancer for Banco Popular’s marketing department and on special projects for the local children’s entertainment company, Atención Atención Inc. After 5 years of consulting with them, I was named Atención Atención’s Marketing Director, and in 2018 I was selected as one of Caribbean Business 40 Under 40. 

After hurricane María hit the island, Duarte Pino one of the top marketing firms on the Top 100 Lists, recruited me to oversee the marketing strategies for Abarca Health, Lote 23, Gascó Industrial, and Bien Cool. When the Covid 19 crisis erupted I decided it was time to become a full-time Mom to my 7-month-old rainbow baby. I enjoyed the process of seeing my tiny baby grow into a strong, healthy toddler.

In the early summer, I was given the opportunity to join the Comet family and I did not think twice about it. Other business opportunities were evolving but being associated with an institution that is very close to my heart was an opportunity I wasn’t willing to pass on. I am now the Fundraising and Alumni Relations Coordinator at CPS! I want to get to know every one of you and build long-lasting relationships along the way. You will be hearing more from my department so we can stay in touch and network.
