The CPS community gathers each year to celebrate Family Day, one of the largest school events which brings together both campuses for a fun-filled day of student presentations, attractions, the Heart for Haiti initiative, food kiosks, artisans, vendors, and much more. This event is organized thanks to the CPS Parent Association (PA). Proceeds of this event are earmarked to benefit CPS Programs, Scholarship Fund and the Maténwa Community Learning Center (MCLC) in Haiti (since 2003).
In 2005, the CPS Interact Club, under the stewardship of Prof. Alexandre Cerqueira (Commonwealth Campus), founded the Heart for Haiti
campaign. Since then, the event has grown thanks to the support of the PA, CPS, and the community at large. Heart for Haiti
is a community-based initiative aimed at creating awareness of issues affecting the population of Haiti and raising funds towards helping Haiti and MCLC in La Gonave. The funds have been mainly used for supporting Maténwa’s breakfast program, using crops from the center’s own garden, and ensures each child has a meal at the beginning of the school day; at times their only meal that day.
