CPS 27th Golf Scholarship Tournament

What a blast! Enjoy a glance at the CPS 27th Golf Scholarship Tournament, a day celebrating Scholarships changing lives.
Commonwealth-Parkville School celebrated its 27th Annual Golf Scholarship Tournament on Friday, March 24th, at the Grand Reserve Championship Golf Course. It was a day full of fun golf benefitting a worthy cause.

The tournament continues to raise the bar in many aspects. Net proceeds have steadily increased over the past years,  earmarked towards the CPS Scholarship Fund. The tournament sold out in record time with returning and new golfers including 19 parent and child twosomes. The event also served to elevate the CPS brand with fabulous player prizes and signage as well as create goodwill towards the school and its programs.
The event's success is largely due to the support of sponsors, players, and volunteers including the Golf Committee and friends of CPS who all came together to ensure a successful and seamlessly executed event. Thanks to the support of many companies and individuals, CPS raised approximately $115,000 towards scholarships. This year’s major sponsors were Aeronet, Lexus, Nationwide, and To Go Stores (alpha).

Registration & Shotgun The event started with registration with the added touch of our student ushers who helped welcome players, sell mulligans and gimmes (breaking previous years' records), and distribute hefty goodie bags which included a customized golf shirt designed by CPS graphic artist, Kenia Colón.  Players enjoyed breakfast sponsored by To Go Stores, Pan Pepin, and Starbucks coffee. Players were then officially welcomed by our Golf Committee Chair, Karina Fernández, who also announced the shotgun to let the fun begin!

On the Green  18-Hole Round of Golf
Luckily, Mr. Sun was on full display and made for a perfect day of golf where adult and student players converged on the 18-hole championship golf course in a day filled with great golf, food, and beverages.  We couldn’t be happier to see our Comet families bonding through golf.

The vast assortment of food throughout the golf course included “lechón a la vara” courtesy of COFRAN, delicious sandwiches by El Churry, tasty Puerto Rican Kikuet turnovers, savory hot dogs from Pan Pepín, and yummy burgers and nuggets donated by Wendy's and served by mascot Wendyta.

On the green, golfers had the opportunity to compete in Gross, Net, Parent/Child categories, the longest drive, closest to the pin, and two hole-in-one challenges that had participants trying their best –- some with "a little help from their friends" (i.e. mulligans, gimmies, or pro Fernando Bobonis)  to win a Lexus!

Banquet & Awards Ceremony
The 18-hole round of golf was followed by the banquet activity where golfers enjoyed a sit-down dinner along with an exclusive beverage station sponsored by Méndez & Co., a raffle with fabulous prizes and auction options, including an 82 feet luxury yacht day charter donated by Paradis Yacht #CometMom Valerie Rodríguez, boxing gloves autographed by world renown champion and #CometDad Tito Trinidad, a 1-carat tennis bracelet courtesy of Joias donated by #CometDad Sammy Barlia’01, and two Carlos Correa baseball shirts secured by #CometDad Dr. Mario Polo.

The event ended with an awards ceremony with the winners receiving trophies created by our art students taught by Ms. Miriam Soto at the Commonwealth Campus. These lavish trophies left a lasting impression on our guests, as not only did these showcase the students’ incredible talent, but evidenced the amount of effort that went into developing these detailed golf-themed art pieces.
This year's trophies were prepared with love by students at the Commonwealth Campus guided and advised by Art teacher, Ms. Miriam Soto. Students were encouraged to create an art piece based on a golf theme.  They worked the entire semester letting their imagination and skills come through creating masterpieces! Thank you to our artists and teacher for supporting this cause.
