Welcome to your future!
Having in mind the investment parents make in their children’s education, as our students and families prepare through middle school and high school for the academic journey ahead, our College & Guidance Counselor, Rebecca Aponte, help each of our students in their vocational development, academic planning, and college placement.
A firm believer of our school’s motto, Lifelong learning beyond academics, she takes the time to engage with our students and help them figure out their interests, vocational calling, college search and placement, and future career plans and options- even after graduation.
Her holistic approach to Counseling has benefited our students, as she works with each one to help them find a career path (and options), a college or university that is the best fit for each student, and develop the academic and extracurricular plans to best support them when they embark in the college applications process with her.
Upon her arrival at our school, Rebecca instituted the Comets Bell tradition (unique to our school), in which each senior class student, along with the family, celebrate two important milestones in their senior year: Sending off their first college application (and starting the process) in the fall semester and celebrating the next chapter (with the college decision) of each senior on Comets Bell Day in the Spring.
As a dynamic counselor, Rebecca has integrated the use of the latest platforms to engage with her student population and produce additional programs to support our students in this growth and discovery process. Besides the “Comets Bell” tradition, she also instituted the annual Women‘s Week campaign, she engages with students and colleges through her @CometsCounselor social media account and serves as the host of the Comet Career Talk podcast. A proud Wolfpack member, she obtained her Master’s Degree in Counseling Psychology from Loyola University New Orleans, and her College Access Specialist certificate from Teacher’s College at Columbia University.
