Horizons Program

The Horizons program provides students with mild learning differences an adapted curriculum to accommodate their specific needs. Our trained teachers become aware of their students’ needs and learning styles through psycho educational evaluations, observations, and professional recommendations.

Our students learn compensatory strategies as they are taught course content, even though remediation or therapies are not offered in the program. Horizons teachers are very accessible and are key to the success of our students providing structure, organization and encouragement to the students, consequently helping them become independent.

Teachers are very proud when a child is mainstreamed, however, they are careful to assure that the change is a successful one and does not lead to frustration and/or failure. Teachers, parents, and students meet to discuss the child’s needs before mainstreaming occurs and to agree that the child is ready. There is a probationary period of one quarter, to make sure that the student is academically, socially, and emotionally adapting well in the classroom.
