Lemuel Aguayo, Class of 1979, NASA Space Flight Awareness Honoree, One of the Highest Recognitions Presented by NASA

Lemuel Aguayo, Class of 1979, was recently selected as a NASA Space Flight Awareness Honoree, one of the highest recognitions bestowed upon NASA and industry employees for their dedication to quality work and flight safety.

Lemuel Aguayo is Senior Project Manager for the Engineering Services Contract at Kennedy Space Center and was selected by NASA as a Space Flight Awareness Honoree in recognition of his outstanding support for the Orion Exploration Flight Test-1 (EFT-1). NASA recognized Aguayo and other honorees at a KSC ceremony this past November, and at events held in conjunction with the EFT-1 launch in December. Lemuel received the award for going above and beyond his normal work requirements to assist NASA in procuring mission critical material needed for the Multi Payload Processing Facility (MPPF), thereby helping NASA to meet major program milestones on time and on budget. Recognizing the probability of substantial delays, Aguayo went outside his assigned job duties and used his experience and strong communication skills to prepare procurement documents, research potential vendors and ensure on-time deliveries of hundreds of thousands of dollars’ worth of critical items needed to support EFT-1. His efforts were instrumental in improving the efficiency and performance of the entire MPPF team. He was one of just 20 employees across the space center who were recognized as EFT-1 Honorees. The NASA Space Flight Awareness Honoree Award is one of the highest presented to NASA and industry employees and is for first-level management and below. It recognizes employees for their dedication to quality work and flight safety.

Lemuel holds a BS in Applied Mathematics and another BS in Mechanical Engineering from Florida Institute of Technology (Florida Tech) located in Melbourne, Florida in June of 1983. He also holds a MS in Engineering Management and a minor in Math from Florida Tech. He is also certified as a Lean Six Sigma Green Belt Certified.
