The Commonwealth Library ascribes to the definition given by the American Library Association Presidential Committee on Information Literacy: “To be information literate, a person must be able to recognize when information is needed, and have the ability to locate, evaluate, and use effectively the needed information.” As collaborators to the teaching personnel, we provide support in a curriculum-oriented, project- based manner,
as the teaching/learning initiatives are generated by each teacher. As firm believers of technological advancements and integration, library personnel aid and instruct in the effective use of all media in the pursuit of these goals.

Commonwealth High School Library provides support in a curriculum-oriented, project/design/inquiry- based manner, complementing the teaching initiatives with customized workshops, orientations, instruction, and assistance given by the librarian, in team-teaching, or interdepartmental collaborative teaching. As firm believers of technological advancements and integration, library personnel aid and instruct in the meaning and effective use of all media.
Some of our library services include:

  • Information literacy, research assistance and formats
  • Collaborative and entrepreneurial skills
  • Media literacy, presentations, and production
  • Evaluation and selection of resources for research and acquisition.
  • Use of educational databases and electronic catalogs
  • Evaluation and ethical use of Internet/digital sources
  • Circulation of equipment and resources
  • Class/Art exhibits and displays.
  • Curriculum related dance workshops (Include historical, political, social, and economic backgrounds that provoke or influence the artistic manifestations)
  • Special events

In support of student participation and training, and student-centered environments, CHS Library sponsors a Work Experience Program for Library Assistants and a Library Advisors Club.  Both groups are trained to be in charge of: surveys, evaluating, selecting, recommending and promoting resources, organizing and hosting special activities, library displays and exhibits, and recommending alternative systems, services, and/or improvements to facilities.
